MUSIC AT GWA

The Music Department at GWA offers all students the opportunity to study music utilizing world class facilities with a team of passionate music educators. The Performing Arts corridor boasts classrooms, ensemble performance spaces, an industry standard recording studio and “live-room”, a green-screen video room, a video editing suite, a black box drama theatre, a mac-lab dedicated to music technology, and 12 small individual practice rooms all with a piano. GWA also has a large auditorium suitable for performances which has a Concert Steinway Model D Piano on stage.

Students in the Early Childhood Program have experiences in music each week as a part of their schedule. Primary Years Program students study music, participating in general music classes and also a specialist string class from Grades 2- 5 where every child learns either violin or ‘cello.

Middle Years Program students may elect music from Grades 6-10, and it is possible to pursue music further in Grades 11-12 in the Diploma Program.

In addition to classroom curriculum music, all students are able to take private individual instrumental tuition with a private teacher. These lessons are provided by the GEMS Music Academy, and students have the opportunity to study Piano, Voice, Guitar, Percussion, String, Woodwind and Brass.

Students may also participate in String Orchestra, Concert Band or Choir. These groups rehearse each week outside of class time.
