The pre-opening concert also took place at GWA on the 3rd of April and featured guest musicians from Prague. The festival was organised by The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) for Young Virtuosos. The opening ceremony featured a concert by the Emirates Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Premier Music College in Prague and also showcased the rare talents of 7-year old Korean prodigy Elli Choi.

The festival is held under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and is one of the major events organised by Dubai Culture & Arts Authority this year. The festival aims to encourage the interest of young Arab nationals in classical music and enhance their talent. It also aims to establish a national symphony orchestra with a strong cadre of young UAE nationals at its core. However, the main purpose of the event is to promote peace among the many nationalities of Dubai through music.

The Emirates Youth Symphony Orchestra was established in 1993. Since then, the ensemble has continued to grow and has performed in international music festivals. Our very own Sung Jun Hong, Grade 5 student at GWA plays the violin in the orchestra.
