Mission, Vision and Aims

Mission Statement

The mission of GWA is to provide an intercultural learning environment, where the reflective school community works towards the holistic development of all students. Through inquiry, students will be active learners with the ability to contribute positively to the world.

Vision Statement

GWA will be an accredited international school that combines the opportunities of a large school with personalization attributed to a small school. GWA will attract and retain students, families, and staff because of its international curriculum, reputation for preparing all students to succeed in multi-phases of their education, its involved and supportive community and exceptional learning environment.

Aims

  1. The Learner
    We aim to help our students become lifelong learners; be knowledgeable and effective communicators; be thinkers, inquirers and risk-takers in learning; be principled and open-minded in spirit; be healthy and happy in life; be reflective, caring and balanced in their outlook; in short, to develop and fulfil their unique self.
     
  2. Values
    We aim to develop an attitude of individual responsibility, based upon the values of honesty, respect, self-control, equality, and care and concern for others.

    GWA can achieve this by:
    • living and modelling our values within our school programme and learning community
       
    • giving opportunities for students to make a positive difference in the lives of others and in the environment through the concept of service

  3. Holistic Education
    We aim to offer an international, holistic education in English that provides a strong intellectual, physical, social and emotional foundation.

    GWA can achieve this by:

    • maintaining a challenging and balanced, well-articulated, well-resourced, best practise international curriculum

    • offering a rich co/extracurricular program

    • teaching that encourages active learning, open enquiry, critical and creative thinking, expression, reflection, independence of thought and decision making

    • providing a safe and healthy environment offering homeroom personalized care and other services to support the well-being of all

    • providing opportunities for students to be successful and be recognized for both effort and achievement in all they do.

  4. Learning Community
    We aim for a community in education working collaboratively in a supportive and respectful atmosphere to develop and maintain a school known for world class quality.

    GWA can achieve this by:

    • engaging the community in supporting the school, its mission and aims
       
    • recruiting, retaining and developing excellent international teachers
       
    • offering opportunities for staff to grow professionally
       
    • maintaining an efficient and effective organizational structure
       
    • ensuring clear communication
       
    • providing facilities that enhance the learning experience
       
    • maintaining a school spirit characterized by open, positive and respectful relationships and a sense of belonging
       
    • supporting an active parents association that helps orient new families, organize social events, raise money and support school initiatives
       
    • working with organizations to ensure quality through a recognized accreditation process
       
  5. Intercultural Understanding
    GWA aims to develop world citizens who can live together peacefully and who are socially, culturally, economically and environmentally aware, sustain a global perspective, and make a difference in their global community.

    GWA can achieve this by:

    • utilizing of local and international resources to raise awareness and respect for different cultures

    • understanding and expressing ideas and information confidently in more than one language.

    • contribute by service and support of others in a variety of opportunities.
