Our mission at The Academy is to provide our students the opportunity to learn independence as well as confidence in making good and healthy decisions. All food will be served from the Academy's Cafeteria and cafes. Snacks will be available at break times. Hot and cold food will be served at lunch time.
At The Academy, special care is given to promote good eating habits. Of course, younger students will be supported in developing independent use, with limited choices and with increasing independence as they progress through The Academy.
Students may bring packed lunches or snack boxes to the Academy each day. The catering company will work with The Academy and families to ensure a well balanced and appetising selection of meals, drinks and snacks are provided through the year.
City Chef Catering
A UAE catering company of excellent repute, provides nutritious, well-balanced meals at competitive prices. City Chef provide menus and full details of the food available to students and their families. The Academy closely monitors this to ensure that all food served is healthy and nutritious. For this reason, no highly processed foods, no drinks with artificial additives, no highly processed sugar content, no candy or confectionary bars are sold to students.
Ahlan Café
The Ahlan Café - located at the main entrance - is intended for use by visitors to the Academy and become a lobby environment in which visitors, staff and parents can meet to discuss Academy related matters.
Opening times:
Ahlan Cafe: From 7:45 am - 12:00 pm
Re-open between 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm
Students do not use this area either accompanied or unaccompanied unless they are visiting the Academy for the admissions.
Breakfast Club (BC)
If there is enough parent/student interest in any early breakfast program we will host it! If you are interested, please Sign up.
If and when we launch the breakfast program, students may arrive at 7:15am, and make themselves comfortable in the canteen. Students would be able to make their selection from the breakfast buffet and ensure they get a nutritional start to their day.
After breakfast, students may complete homework tasks or independent study. Games and other activities will also be available for students to ready themselves for a busy day ahead.
At 8:20am, older students will be dismissed to homerooms and younger stuednts will be escorted to their classrooms / courtyard to meet with their class teacher.
Once again, the caterer requires a minimum of 20 students to open the breakfast program.
Meal times at the Academy
Early Childhood School students (Nursery, Pre-K and K) and Grade 1 are served with a set menu each day in the cafeteria.
Elementary School students will be have a choice of food each day and eat together in the cafeteria. They are fully supervised.
Secondary School (Grades 6 - 10) students will have a choice of food each day and eat together in the cafeteria. All lunches are supervised.
GEMS WORLD ACADEMY FOOD POLICY
Please observe our packed lunch policy: Provide your child with a nourishing, healthy snack. Nuts are not permitted in school as some children have severe allergic reactions to them. We do not permit fizzy drinks (carbonated soda) in school. For health and safety reasons, please ensure your child's drink in an unbreakable container. Water bottles are encouraged. Water may be consumed all day anywhere on campus, except in the computer or science labs.
