Ms Rebecca Sykes
Primary Years Programme Coordinator
Rebecca joined GEMS World Academy - Dubai in 2017 and has taken on a variety of roles within the Primary School, including Class Teacher, Mathematics Coordinator and Early Years PYP Coordinator (Nursery – Grade 1). This year, she will be the Primary Years Programme Coordinator with responsibility for supporting the learning community (including teachers, students and parents) in planning for learning and teaching and in growing their understanding of the PYP.
Rebecca is passionate about the role of play in the Early Years (and beyond) and how to empower curious learners with agency through voice, choice and ownership. Rebecca strongly values an inquiry-based approach, driven by questions, where active investigation can lead to real life connections and a deeper understanding about the world we live in.
Rebecca began her teaching career in the UK, before moving to Thailand where she taught in a leading British International School in Bangkok for 4 years. Rebecca took on a number of roles including Class Teacher in both Lower and Upper Primary, International Award Leader, Emergency First Responder and Assistant Head of Year.
Rebecca loves travel, learning languages and exploring all that nature has to offer with her husband, Ben and their 3 children, Finley, Evelyn and Oscar.
