Ms Karen Nyborg
Assistant Principal Secondary - Curriculum, Progress and Assessment
Karen feels incredibly privileged to join the GEMS World Academy - Dubai family as the new Assistant Principal of Secondary for Curriculum, Progress and Assessment. Karen works closely with the MYP and DP teaching staff, administrators, and families to ensure our student body achieves outstanding success in meeting all of their personal and academic goals, in order to enter the world’s leading post-secondary institutions. Karen believes this can be achieved by implementing curriculum in a way which allows students to explore their passions, builds student’s confidence as life-long learners, and challenges them in new and unexpected ways.
Karen has had the good fortune of working with a variety of curricula; including the International Baccalaureate, US Common Core, and Canadian curriculum in schools throughout the UAE, China, South Korea, and Canada. Karen’s most recent leadership experience has been in the role of Deputy Head of Secondary and IBDP Coordinator at a school in the UAE. Karen is particularly passionate about leading learning in the MYP and DP programmes as the IB provides students with a truly global perspective, as well as an ability to develop characteristics of the IB learner profile necessary to be successful in an ever-changing world.
Karen’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in International Development Studies and History and a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Education. Karen is currently pursuing a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Leadership at the University of New Brunswick in her native Canada.
