Luise Lowndes is a highly experienced global educator. She has worked in schools in England, the Arabian Gulf, Hong Kong and Indonesia as well as her home country of Australia. She joins GWA in August 2020 from the highly regarded British School Jakarta, where she is Deputy Head of Secondary and has oversight of learning and teaching in Years 7-13. In this role she led the introduction of both the IB Middle Years Programme and IB Career-related Programme.
Luise believes passionately in the philosophy of the International Baccalaureate Organisation and student centred holistic education. In addition to leading the IB Diploma programme in two excellent schools, Luise has held many other leadership roles including Head of English at the well reputed King George V School in Hong Kong.
Luise holds a Bachelor Degree in Education, a Certificate in Advanced Education Leadership from Harvard Graduate School of Education and is in the final stages of completing her Master’s Degree in Applied Educational Leadership and Management at University College London’s Institute of Education. She has presented on student wellbeing and has been at the forefront of British School Jakarta’s pioneering collaboration with MIT on Compassionate Systems Learning.
Luise loves reading both fiction and non-fiction, she enjoys staying fit doing aqua aerobics and she has a highest Scrabble score of 511! She will be joined in Dubai by her husband Mark, a keen windsurfer and equally accomplished Scrabble player.
