Mr Thomas Meakin

Secondary Principal

With a background in Curriculum and Assessment and a passion for school improvement, Thomas has worked within the UAE for the last 8 years, initially as an Assistant Principal and currently as a Secondary Principal in Abu Dhabi. These experiences have allowed him to develop an expertise in Student Achievement and Effective Learning. Thomas has worked across a variety of curriculum areas, primarily within the UK system, but also across the IB programme as well as US and Australian systems. This has provided him with an excellent understanding of student outcomes and how to maximise student growth. He believes in evidenced based practice and maximising impact, linked to the work of John Hattie (Visible Learning) and Carole Dweck (Growth Mindset). At the forefront of Thomas’ passion for school improvement is the aspect of a challenging, engaging and inclusive education for all students. Thomas believes in Leaders creating Leaders at all levels and is extremely passionate about student leadership within this. Thomas leads by example in a manner that values hard work, creativity, and collaboration. Thomas is currently completing his Master’s in educational leadership at the University of Buckinghamshire, as well as developing Action Research programmes through the University of Bristol. Thomas has developed and implemented Teacher Training programmes through the University of Sunderland in his previous role and is passionate about providing opportunities for all staff to continue their professional development and become lifelong learners. Thomas is an extremely keen badminton and football player. He is married to Jodie and has three young children.
