Jonathon Howarth

Middle Years Programme Coordinator,
Administration

Jon is a passionate advocate of continuous lifelong learning, from students through to parents and teachers. The Middle Years Program (MYP) is a coherent and comprehensive curriculum framework that allows students the freedom to innovatively explore their own learning, and develop the skills and knowledge required to become fruitful lifelong learners.

Jon completed his own studies in the UK, using his Bsc. (Hons) degree in Geology at the University of Manchester to then complete his PGCE in Geography at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Jon began his teaching in the UK, moving to Peru for 3 years and then on to Dubai, where he has been living and working for the last 9 years.

Jon has been a Geography, History and Integrated Humanities teacher for over 18 years. He has been teaching in the IB curriculum for 13 years, and within the MYP for 9 years. Of these 18 years, the last 9 have also been as a Coordinator within the IB Diploma Program either as a CAS, Extended Essay, ToK and CP Coordinator, developing a wealth of experience and knowledge in both the IB MYP and Diploma programs. Jon has also led or supported over 25 school trips to places as far as the UK, Peru, Kenya, Spain and Borneo. These reflect his belief that learning takes place in all areas of life and not just in a classroom; service learning and outdoor pursuits have both been major aspects of his teaching career.

Jon’s passions include travel and cooking, and in a previous life he has worked in a number of kitchens across the UK.
