Ms Kristen Murphy
I am proud to say I am beginning my 9th year as a member of the GEMS World Academy - Dubai family. I am a highly experienced educator, having taught for over twenty years in American, British and the International Baccalaureate. Going through the process of teaching the inquiry-based IB framework has been an exciting and invigorating challenge. I started at GEMS World Academy - Dubai as a Grade One teacher, continuing on to an instructional leadership role, before moving into Senior Leadership as an Assistant Principal and the Primary Principal.
At GEMS World Academy - Dubai we strongly believe in facilitating children to make global connections and creating a better world through education. Making connections and helping children realise they can change the world, is a passion every educator strives for. Forming positive and nurturing relationships is imperative for students to build confidence and resilience, at GEMS World Academy - Dubai we provide numerous opportunities to students of all abilities from a range of different backgrounds (e.g Entrepreneurship Hub, Primary Science, enrichment days and extracurricular clubs), and encourage students to develop scientific minds using the latest technology and equipment.
GEMS World Academy – Dubai offers incredible training for staff, not only orientation days but also weekly CPD training which is fine-tuning my leadership practice. During my time at GEMS World Academy - Dubai I have been supported to lead in-school workshops on environmental classroom spaces and classroom management strategies. As a person who strives to constantly improve and develop myself professionally, I was accepted to speak at the 50th Anniversary of the IB conference, leading a workshop on ‘Developing Whole-School Peer Mentoring’, based on our GEMS World Academy - Dubai programme.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, I have lived in the United Arab Emirates for over half of my life, both as a child and as an adult. It has been an amazing opportunity, to live in the Middle East and watch a country from its very early days develop into what it has become today. This unique experience has helped form the third culture adult I am today. I am passionate about United Arab Emirates history and development. One of the best parts of my job is developing the Social Studies curriculum, based on the National Agenda, and being able to see it evolve. In my personal time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, my recently GEMS World Academy - Dubai graduated 18 year old daughter and my 14 year old twins, who also attend GEMS World Academy - Dubai.
