Team Spotlight - Alexandra Long
I was born and raised in Lancashire, England. Upon finishing school I studied at Kings College, London and obtained a BA (Hons) degree in English Language. I was able to develop my love of writing after graduating in the role as PR Manager for a high-profile London based PR Agency for a number of years. My teaching career began following completion of a PGCE in Education at St. Mary’s College, Twickenham. I worked for a number of years at an Outstanding Primary School in Kensington and Chelsea, London as a Class Teacher and Curriculum Lead.
My first international post was in Thailand, where I taught for 5 years at a British International School. I took on a number of roles during this time, including Class Teacher in both Lower and Upper Elementary, CPD Coordinator, IPC Curriculum Lead and finally Assistant Head of Primary. I also established the Primary Eco Council and I am very passionate about inspiring the next generation of innovative problem solvers who are confident to question and challenge the systems that we live in.
I joined the KG2 Team at GEMS World Academy – Dubai and I also am Curriculum Lead for Social Studies. I am passionate about sparking curiosity and creativity in students, whilst nurturing their connection with communities, nature and the world.
Combining my love of teaching and travel, I took the opportunity to volunteer at an orphanage school in Nepal and spent time working in schools in rural areas of Ghana and Northern Thailand. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, spending time with friends and exploring new places with my husband and daughter, Florence.
