Delta X-15

A motor-racing team run entirely by GEMS World Academy students

Team Delta X-15 is GEMS World Academy's official entry into the F1 in Schools contest, an acclaimed international STEM event. In emulation of the famed Formula One competition, school teams take on the challenge of designing and manufacturing a miniature F1 car using CAD/CAM design tools, based on an extensive set of rules and regulations provided by the organisers.

Engineered with precision, made for speed

The Delta X-15 project has brought together a group of talented students, each working in their own capacity to realise the collective dream. From designing their own team uniforms and creating an F1 pit booth, to marketing the enterprise to the wider community, the students are actively involved every step of the way. Besides partnering with GEMS Education, the team has also managed to gain sponsorship from the likes of Saudi German Hospital Dubai, Call Print, R&M Bearing and more.

The Journey

Along with being crowned UAE National Champions for F1 in Schools, the Delta X-15 team has won awards for best pit display stand and best engineered car. As a home team, Delta X-15 is now gearing up to represent the UAE in the upcoming world finals held at Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina Circuit in November 2019. The team is hoping to leave their mark on the mega event, which will host 10,000 students from 50 countries and include scholarships to reputed global engineering universities among its many prizes.

  • “F1 in Schools is a fantastic STEM opportunity at GWA, where the students get a holistic experience of marketing, presentation and collaboration, all under one roof.”

In collaboration with GEMS World Academy’s entrepreneurship director, Delta X-15 conducted a workshop for the school’s Grade 5 students, which included a simulation of the F1 in Schools competition. The initiative aimed to generate interest and curiosity among the next generation of students transitioning into secondary school, and almost 50 students attended.

The F1 in Schools competition aims to introduce young students to top-notch engineering in a fun environment. As an IB+ school, GEMS World Academy is an enthusiastic supporter of providing students with opportunities to excel across all disciplines. In this spirit, the school has extended its support and sponsorship to the Delta X-15 team – covering everything from facilities, funds and faculty involvement, to the wholehearted encouragement of the entire GWA community.

Latest Update - December 2019

Congratulations to our students who have recently competed in the Formula 1 in Schools. The two teams, Blue Comet and Delta X-15, were both selected to represent the UAE after competing in regional finals. This was the first time that one school had represented their country in both competitions (Rookie and Professional). The presentations were conducted on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi. The two teams came 12th and 17th respectively (out of 50 teams from 33 countries). This was the first time two teams from the same school had come in the top 20! Additionally, Team Delta X-15 won the Chair of Judges Recognition of Achievement Award, one of the most prestigious awards to the competition.

Congratulations to all students, staff and parents involved in this fantastic achievement.
