Ms Angela Roberts
Primary Years Programme Coordinator
Angela graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland with an honours degree in Retail Management in 2002. After this, she worked for a popular UK supermarket and then a highly reputable clothing retailer. During this time, Angela led departments and subsequently began a role in training and development. It was this latter role which inspired her to move into teaching. In 2006, Angela graduated from Glasgow University with a PGDE in Primary Education. Her Newly Qualified Teaching year and subsequent two years were spent teaching in her home country of Scotland. She has over 15 years of experience in teaching, which includes Curriculum for Excellence (Scotland) as well as the English National Curriculum and International Baccalaureate. Angela has taught in Dubai since 2008 and lives here with her husband, Mark.
Angela joined the GWA family in 2017 and has taught across lower primary. Previous middle leadership roles have included Grade 3 Team Leader, a role in which she was able to guide and support teachers and assistants within the team, sharing excellent practices with colleagues throughout the Primary School. In her at the Academy, she has led the Primary Model United Nations, in which she was able to lead Upper Primary students to learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. Previously, Angela has led the RAK (Random Acts of Kindness) Enrichment Club. Kindness, respect, inclusiveness and integrity are many of the values Angela holds close to her heart. Angela’s passion in education stems from motivating and encouraging children to flourish and become confident and successful learners, regardless of their starting point. She believes that it's through real life experiences, opportunities for exploration and life skills that children become prepared for the world of tomorrow.
“A well-educated mind will always have more questions than answers”. Angela believes this quote by Helen Keller epitomises the heart of the PYP. She says the most rewarding element of teaching and learning at GEMS World Academy - Dubai is seeing the thinkers, inquirers and risk takers that make up the school. Angela is the Primary Years Programme Coordinator with responsibility for supporting the learning community (including teachers, students and parents) in planning for learning and teaching and in growing their understanding of the PYP.
Angela enjoys keeping up to date with current IB practices and exploring the UAE, particularly when family and friends come to visit. To foster a healthy and positive mindset, Angela enjoys beach runs, going to the gym, cycling and playing golf.
