The IB Primary Years Programme at GEMS World Academy - Dubai
GEMS World Academy – Dubai is an IB World School which delivers the IB Primary Years Programme
(PYP) for students from Pre K through to Grade 5. The PYP provides a holistic approach to curriculum design and places the child at the center the learning process. The PYP framework shows a series of concentric circles representing the Essential Elements within the PYP curriculum. These elements interconnect to meet the personal, social, emotional and physical needs of the whole child.
The PYP at GEMS World Academy-Dubai encompasses the Essential Elements of knowledge, conceptual understandings, skills, attitudes and actions that encourage international mindedness and global citizenship. The essential elements feature in our collaboratively planned units of inquiry which follow six transdisciplinary themes. These themes allow ‘traditional’ subjects to be explored through interconnected personal, local and global perspectives. Aspects of each theme are integrated across all grades each academic year from Kindergarten 2 to Grade 5 (Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten 1 focus on four units per academic year).
