Career-related Programme

The Career-Related Programme (CP) is a framework of international education that incorporates the values of the IB into a unique programme addressing the needs of students engaged in career-related education. Of all the IB schools in the UAE, GEMS World Academy - Dubai is one of just two schools in the region to be accredited to offer all four IB programmes.

The CP was specifically developed for students who wish to engage in career-related learning while gaining transferable and lifelong skills in applied knowledge, critical thinking, communication, and cross-cultural engagement.

CP students undertake a minimum of two IB Diploma Programme (DP) courses, a core consisting of four components, and a career-related study.

The programme is characterised by international-mindedness, enhancing personal and professional interests and service learning. In this programme, GEMS World Academy - Dubai students develop the academic strength, international perspective and research skills required for university and life-long learning, with the flexibility and professional skills to ensure they are successful in their careers well beyond university.

  • How many subjects do IB CP students need to study?

IB CP students complete at least two DP courses. In GEMS World Academy - Dubai, students must select English and Mathematics, but can also opt for a third subject in any of the subject groups: studies in Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics and The Arts. CP students should choose DP courses that are relevant to their career- related studies.

  • What other academic requirements does the CP entail?

Another academic requirement expected of CP students is career-related studies. This provides students with practical, real-world approaches to learning designed to prepare them for higher education, an internship or apprenticeship, or a position in a designated field of interest. The career-related studies offered at GEMS World Academy - Dubai are Extended BTEC Diplomas which are aligned with student needs and progress toward further study or direct employment.
